Relation of Service Systems Engineering with Model Based Systems Engineering

From the previous meeting it was decided that as MBSE appeared to be 'the only show in town' then we should know how SSE related to MBSE from all angles. To accomplish this it was proposed to try and contact the INCOSE UK MBSE group and see what could be arranged.

As a result a paper abstract for ASEC2019 was written by Simon Wright and James Towers (chair of the MBSE group). Unfortunately thhe abstract was net accepted.

Management

Simon Wright and Iain Cardlow had contacted James to see if e could arrange a joint working session. However, this had not been possible due to work loads. It was agreed to use the INCOSE UK Z-Guide 9 on MBSE as it is at an elementary level that those outside the subject should be able to understand.

Understanding MBSE Concepts

Model

An abstraction of a system of interest constructed from one or more representations. The model is the total recorded knowledge of the project i.e. a single point of reference

System of Interest

The subject of the Systems Engineering endeavour. It may cover any or all of the problem (environment), project (people and solution spaces

Representation

A partial description of the system of interest (sometimes called a view). It may be a diagram, text, a table, or some other layout using one or more graphical language

Viewpoint

The purpose of one or more representations. A viewpoint helps to manage complexity by addressing only those aspects relevant to associated concerns.

Quality Criterion

A measure of some aspect of the model used to determine if it is fit for purpose at a particular point in the lifecycle

Use of Models, Views, Diagrams, Tools

Comparison with Service Systems Engineering

Creation of SE Poster for ASEC 2019

Date of next meeting
